The Guayaberas are part of the Yucatan identity, they are made by many local manufacturers since the 20th century after the Henequen Barons brought these shirts back from Havana as a symbol of high status and popularized them in Mexico, specially by the former president Luis Echeverria in the 1970's. They added the Yucatecan touch like the alforzas (tiny vertical pleats) and the Maya inspired geometrical and floral embroidery, elevating their quality and modernizing the style over the years. '
